Module 4: Google Classroom, Edpuzzle, and FlipGrid

Before my class, Technology in Education, I never heard of something called a Google Classroom. And I mean, NEVER. When I was first assigned to use Google Classroom, I had no clue how to use it. But after further instruction, I became much more familiar with it. Then I began to like using it. This made me feel like I was actually a licensed teacher. I like that feeling as that is what I am going to college to become. Through Google Classroom, I can assign homework assignments and make announcements on it. I can set up my own due dates and create my own assignments. I could either let my “students” be creative or give them specific instructions for what their task is. I love how Google Classroom can be used to engage students (and teachers) in what their homework is. It made me more excited to become a teacher and execute Google Classroom in my future classroom.

Another aspect that I loved about Google Classroom is how I can use other websites and link in straight into my Google class. A website that I could use for my online classroom was Edpuzzle. I thought that this was the best website because I could use youtube videos, or other websites to receive videos, and I could edit them to how I liked. I could also add little quizzes to the videos, which was much more fun assigning and creating rather than doing. :) Edpuzzle also allowed me to pick my own due dates and link to my classroom rather simply. I was not wasting time trying to figure out how to link the website to my classroom, but it was all right there in one place. It made it much easier and a lot more fun to use because it had minimal problems and was not overwhelming. I know that I will use Edpuzzle in the future because it was helpful, fun, and easy to use.

Another website that was easily linked to my online classroom was Flipgrid. I was familiar using this website as it was the first assignment for Education 209. However, I do not think that I will use this website for my online classroom in the future. Although it would be useful to use to introduce each other in a class without having to get in front of the class, I would be hesitant to use it for Middle School Students, as that is what I will be licensed in one day. I say this because Middle School is a time of change and students are immature. I would not be able to see if students were making fun on one another or not. So in regards to that aspect, I will not use this website for my future students, I personally do not like recording myself either, and I would not assign my students something that I was also uncomfortable doing.

Overall, I really enjoyed creating my Google Classroom and implementing my own, creative assignments for “students.” I look forward to using this website and taking advantage of it in the future. I highly recommend using Google Classroom.
