Twitter Experience


I am not going to lie when I say that I was hesitant to start using Twitter for me Education in Technology class. At first, I was not sure how Twitter would help me build my professional development. However, once I understand what exactly I was supposed to be doing, it all made sense to me.


By following educators all around the country, I was not sure what kind of things they were going to post. I did not know what I should have been looking for or what advice I would get out of it. But after teachers and educators posted their thoughts and ideas, I started to get new perspectives. I am not yet a professional educator, but these people are and have been teacher for numerous years. They have experiences and advice that I could use for my future classroom. Some big takeaways for me personally, was how to handle students who do not enjoy school and how to make a school day more interactive and enjoyable. I have no clue how to do those things yet, as I have just started learning about ways to be a successful educator. I thoroughly enjoy my experience on Twitter because it gives me much more excitement on how I can potentially run my own classroom one day.


As for the Twitter chats, I never knew that they occurred. But as I joined the chats, I thought that I learned a lot. I learned about how to handle situations of accepting diversity, how to manage work and personal life, and I learned more strategies of teaching by other educators.


One major aspect that I love about using Twitter for this class is that I can learn with and through my peers. They all have great ideas and perspectives and they retweet things that I would not have found on my own. I think that it is important to learn through and with my peers as we are all in this learning experience together. I find that by retweeting and even liking another one of my peers post is that we all accept and encourage each other to keep finding new things to post and to embrace new ideas and advice.





Overall, I have really enjoyed my experience with using Twitter, because it has allowed me to gain new ideas and receive advice about how to go about teaching in the future. Twitter has gotten me more excited about teaching in a classroom. I love how I can use a social media app and not feel guilty using it….now that is a bonus!

One of the first things that I learned about the student response tools is that they are extremely helpful in regards to teaching a lesson or wanting student feedback. A lot of the tools were useful if an educator was trying to determine how a student was doing in a specific content area as many tools could show strengths and weaknesses in a specific topic for each student. Module 4: Google Classroom, Edpuzzle, and FlipGrid

Before my class, Technology in Education, I never heard of something called a Google Classroom. And I mean, NEVER. When I was first assigned to use Google Classroom, I had no clue how to use it. But after further instruction, I became much more familiar with it. Then I began to like using it. This made me feel like I was actually a licensed teacher. I like that feeling as that is what I am going to college to become. Through Google Classroom, I can assign homework assignments and make announcements on it. I can set up my own due dates and create my own assignments. I could either let my “students” be creative or give them specific instructions for what their task is. I love how Google Classroom can be used to engage students (and teachers) in what their homework is. It made me more excited to become a teacher and execute Google Classroom in my future classroom. Module 2: Digital Story

        Digital Storytelling                    As it was my responsibility to create a digital story, I had no clue where I should start. Reading about what a good digital story looks like, given the resources under module two, it specified that digital storytelling should be broken down into the simplest form and that I should be cautious in regards to the amount of words being overused. I read in the article, The Science of Storytelling, that the human brain becomes much more active when a story is being told. A good story allows others to have emotions implanted in their heads, which allows connections between others.
