2nd Twitter Blog Post
2nd Twitter Blog Post
Throughout this semester, it has been my task to continually check and retweet on Twitter in order to develop my professional development. On Twitter, there are a variety, almost never-ending, amount of resources from professionals and local teachers around. When I first heard about the Twitter requirement, I thought that it was a little silly because it was a social media site. Little did I know how much I would learn from being on Twitter. I really appreciate how this assignment has been all semester with minimal deadlines. I appreciate how I can go on Twitter when I can and look at educational items that I want to learn more about or implement into my classroom.
Another aspect of the Twitter guidelines is to participate in a Twitter Chat. Before Technology in Education, I never knew that a Twitter Chat was a thing. I like participating in Twitter Chats when I can because local teachers implement their opinions and advice to students such as myself. Every individual on the Twitter Chats bring something new to the table and it is beneficial and interesting to read different stories, advice, and opinions of educators that have experience. It adds more to my knowledge about teaching and helps me be more prepared of what to expect from my students in my future classroom.
Another aspect that I wanted to mention about Twitter is how I am noticing other teachers use it! I am currently in my field experience placement. I have been experiencing Palos South Middle School and my cooperating teacher mentioned how she uses Twitter to improve her professional development. This was the first time I have ever heard someone, besides my peers and my professors, mentioned Twitter for professional development. This made me realize that Twitter for teachers is much more common than I thought. It got me excited to hear that my cooperating teacher uses Twitter too!
Overall, I love seeing different tweets that my peers post because it adds more to my own knowledge and my peer’s posts allow me to think about things that I may not have thought of on my own. The amount of advice and ideas that I have gotten from Twitter will benefit my time as a teacher. These Twitter experiences have made me much more excited to decorate my classroom for all students, create expectations, and implement teaching strategies. I plan to use Twitter throughout my college career and go to Twitter when I am a licensed teacher because I can turn to it for ideas and advice if I am lost in what I should do with my class (which hopefully won’t happen). I appreciate and love how a social media site can be beneficial and relate to my occupation!
