Module 5: Flip Project

Flip Project

While completing this part of my Technology in Education class, it was required that either individually or with a partner, we were to create a miniature lesson plan that is followed under an IPTS (Illinois Teaching Standard). After a lesson was created, it was then required that each student in the class is supposed to make a quiz following that lesson. But, let me know explain what each part of the Flip Project went and what my final thoughts are on each section.

I chose to work with a partner on both the lesson and the quiz. The first part that my partner and I had to complete was finding a standard and creating a lesson out of it. Let me be completely honest in saying that is was not easy trying to find a standard that works. Some of the standards seemed really difficult in trying to create a lesson out of, especially for older students. But also keep in mind, that I am also a student and do not know all of the necessary tools to complete a successful lesson. Although, the lesson that my partner and I found was about teaching students about money, such as pennies, quarters, dimes, and nickels. Thankfully, humor was encouraged in this lesson plan, which made making the lesson much more fun to do. Although, I understand that when I become a licensed teacher, humor will not always be professional. However, humor in my first ever lesson, was a lot of fun. I enjoyed making a lesson, and once I started the lesson and had a plan of what to say, it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

The next piece that my partner and I had to complete was making a quiz that would coincide with the lesson that was taught. I originally thought that this was going to be the easy part. But it was a lot more difficult making the quiz than making the lesson, which I thought was surprising and interesting. The quiz was not meant to be challenging, but it was difficult trying to create questions that would make sense to all students. It was also important to create a quiz that had answers that students had to think about. I can only imagine what that would be like for a middle or high school teacher when trying to make a quiz that is challenging and proves what students have learned.

Overall, I thought that the Flip Project was much more difficult than I anticipated. However, this project has also shown me what being an educator is like and that there are challenges when trying to create a lesson that is easy enough for students to understand and a quiz that is challenging enough for students to think on.
